| Kate and Grace on the double decker bus |
Arrived safely in London however the jetlag did bash us around so we all up and wandering about at 3am Yesterday morning! Decided to get out and see London on a 'hop on hop off' bus. It is a fantastic way to orientate yourself and see where all the highlights are however we did manage to pick the hottest day in donkey ages AND the London council decided that it would be neat to rip up a few of the roads so the traffic was disasterous - a 2:35 ride took almost 4 hours !! Girls were all not impressed but it has made us work out how the underground works! Got tickets for the London Eye, Madame Trousades, Claridges, a West End show and Sue ( friend from school days ) has kindly agreed to take us to a Market on Sunday. Also hoping to have a pint with Ben ( a lad that I worked with a few years ago ).
Just saw in the news that France have banned cars with 8 or more children from travelling tomorrow ! Dear Lord what have we let ourselves in for ;) Apparently the French take holidays in either July or August and tomorrow is the cross over weekend when the July holiday makers come home and the August ones leave. We've got tickets on the Chunnel so will miss all that nonsense (hopefully)
We'll hop on the tube today and get around a few of the shops that the kids have on their to do list - Hamleys is obviously right on the top !

It sounds like you are having a fabulous time. Good you choose to take a day off! It's a bit disconcerting not knowing who is writing the posts - think you should declare up front so we don't have to search for the sport or shopping references! We are down to 27 days. Summer clothes just came into shops here which is good as Jacob has outgrown his. Walking fitness increasing in preparation. Dollar dropping hugely which is not helpful. Enjoy London make sure you buy a Prince George tea towel! Any handy hints you've learnt please pass on. L xx
ReplyDeleteHi Laura - Wendy here :). Goog point on letting you know that upfront. Handy hints - get your kids to sleep on long haul flights. They were fantastic on the flights just didn't sleep - this had a real flow on effect in terms of their energy (and ours to be honest). Other than that packing cells are working brilliantly and wet wipes are my best friend. The girls still refer to you every time I pull them out - which given the number of underground tubes we have been on has been quite a lot:). I'm finding London quite overwhelming - huge sensory overload. It is SO busy, don't suppose summer holidays, hottest day in ten years plus closing a number of central London roads this weekend for a bike race has helped with getting people around. The girls and I are off to Hyde Park tomorrow for a picnic - Kate said she just wants to sit on some grass :). Andrew is off to meet up with a friend. Plan is we will meet up at Harrods mid afternoon (I've got to buy that tea towel) :) Can't wait to see you all at the train station ..... Xxx
ReplyDeleteIt is so busy eh..gaz and I had a day there with the kids..ha! We were dreaming. We then went back down by ourselves and zoomed around..But weeks are needed really. Hyde park sounds a great idea. Find a fountain. Always good to remember the real point of the holiday is that you are all together away...and thats what you will actually remember not the stuff you see.Our fondest memory is of the kids and gary in the car in france singing at the tops of there voices badly out of tune and wailing with me photographing sunflowers in a field.
ReplyDeleteYou're right Kat - it's the little things that stick. We went to Madame Tossauds and Claridges today and all the girls can talk about is being caught in the rain and completely drenched coming back from the tube station ! Ya gotta love them :)
